ThinkFirst Launches State-of-the-Art
Social Media Campaign for Young Drivers
ThinkFirst on Facebook

On October 14, 2009, ThinkFirst Missouri introduced two exciting digital media platforms for teens and young adults—Facebook and SMS/Text Messaging. Pure Marketing and Media, of Columbia, MO, provided the strategic, creative, and technological services needed to develop the intervention.
The primary goal of the campaign is to promote traffic safety among teens. The digital platforms will engage teen audiences through discussion threads, video clips, photos from school programs, etc. Content will be modified and monitored on a daily basis and user participation will be tracked.
The ThinkFirst Missouri Social Media campaign is the first of its kind in the United States and will serve as a pilot program for over 100 ThinkFirst chapters across the nation.
This project is supported by Federal Highway Funds from the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Title: “In memory of…”
Description: Broken and twisted car parts entangled with items that cause distracted driving symbolizing a roadside memorial cross
Artist: Kristen Blair, Senior, Rock Bridge High School
Artist Statement: My piece is about teens and their distractions while driving, and the consequences of their actions. Our society is so fast-paced, requiring us to be master multi-taskers. The reason I put the mangled hand and face in this piece is to show the brutality of death caused by car crashes. I know it is not pleasant to look at, but it is the truth. The beer cans represent drinking and driving. I really feel this is a problem that people generally overlook. If you drink, don’t drive, simple. If you do, your face could end up like this one. The cell phone represents talking on the phone, or worse, texting and driving. My piece is intended to make you think. I want you to see the truth and accept it. I am not trying to change the world, just one mind at a time.
